Do you think that international travel is out of your budget and time? Then you are not right.
Sri lanka is a place of scenic beauty, beaches, hills, wildlife, and temples too! Isn’t that sound great?
So whether you plan to travel for a relaxing vacay or an adventurous trip with activities such as Suba diving, snorkeling, surfing (learning too), or exploring wildlife: Srilanka has it all! Well, to make you relaxed and happy if you travel to South India from Delhi then the cost of your flight tickets will almost be the same if you travel to Sri Lanka.
Sri lanka is a place to be visited with family or friends. The people are quite tourist-friendly and the place is pocket-friendly too. Let’s start the planing for your next vacation to Sri Lanka with the bunch of places and recommendations:
How to reach:
There are various flight options to choose from. We took a flight from Delhi to Colombo, go for a direct flight as it saves time and energy. There is no time difference hence the time you reach Colombo will be the same in India. Sounds good?
The direct flight duration will be approx. 3 hours 40 mins.
Different City- Different Life
Colombo: Capital city of Srilanka. It’s like a metro city in India. Developed, modern architecture, buildings, clubs, and autos for local travel. Which the localities call tuk-tuk.
The city is young at night and there are various clubs which can be explored. We stayed in Hotel
Fairway Colombo which was in the main city and barely 200 meters distance to the clubs.
Don’t forget to buy a Srilankan Mask for yourself and your loved ones as a souvenir. It holds a religious significance so opt as per your requirements.
Sigiriya: One of the famous places to visit is Sigiriya which is approx.. 1 hour 30 mins drive from Colombo. Buses also go to Sigiriya from Colombo. Please contact your hotel concierge to know the timings and whether its operational (spl. After COVID)
Sigiriya rock is 660 feet in height and it takes 1200 steps to climb to the top. The average time would like 1 hour to climb up and approx. 30 mins to come back.
The trek can be difficult for someone doing trekking for the first time, with breaks you will be able to reach the top.
Nuwara Eliya: It’s called the mini England of Srilanka for its weather and tea plantations. The climate is just like in England. Cold and drizzling at any hour! Loved the warm welcome with a cool breeze due to the hilly area and rains. One night’s stay can be enough to enjoy this place’s beauty, explore the tea plantations and immerse in the scenic beauty.
Bentota: Popular for its beaches and marine life and those wanting to snorkel & take part in water sports.
Madu Ganga River Safari: must-do activity in Bentota. The rive ride will also cover Cinnamon Island.
Bentota is warm during the day and pleasant at night. Also, it’s a small city in Srilanka, hence my recommendation is to opt for a good hotel which is adjacent to a beach or has a private beach with a pool. It’ll enhance your trip leisure and you’ll have more stories to tell to your family & friends. Do try it out. We stayed in The Ekho Surf hotel, which had a swimming pool and a beach.
Bentota will fulfil all your thrust for water sports activities. Well, you can also learn surfing here.
The surfing course is of 8 hours and ranges from 100$-150$ depending on the course you opt. Please note in Srilanka you can pay in Srilankan rupee or dollars.
Kandy: for Minneriya safari to see wild elephants, monkeys, deer, and birds. You can include this place if you’ve never been to wildlife or would like to cover it.
The place has sacred Buddhist temples and some tea plantations too. You can also go to Kandy by a train ride. It is a most breathtaking journey from Kandy to Ella in 7-hour ride that moves through tea plantations, jungle, and mountains. As the journey goes on, you move higher and higher up into the rolling green highlands where the big tea farms are and many beautiful hilltop villages and waterfalls.
A trip of 3-4 days and even 5-6 days is good if you plan to cover 2-3 cities. DO enjoy every city and take time for relaxation too. The local staple food is pork and mostly non-veg. which one might not like in taste, hence we did not really tried local cuisine and enjoyed eating at the hotel.
Enjoy some of the pictures from the place.
